Sorry about the poor presentation on Tuesday
The detail model shows the relationship between outside forest and inside columns.
This massive one presents the courtyard as the center of villa which is indicates the most interest element in the building.
The colors highlight the different utility of the building, for blue one is to present transition point for connecting the other side of the building, the green one presents the working space for host and the red presents the private area such as bedroom. The transparent block shows the public use.
I chose circulation, geometric shape and materiality to define Villa Mairea.
Circulation:
Function and Layouts: Alvato he designed for his client a semi-private area for them to live. The blue shading in ground floor is for transition which can be accessed to every other part of building. The architect he wanna devide the space for client who can have an enough private area to live, therefore the stair to first floor especially for the bedroom area, he just designed one stair for connecting the ground floor and bedroom of first floor. The courtyard can be treated as a centre which can swap information between its main body sauna. This layout can bring a semi-private for the client.
The Way of Movement:
For level one, the most activities are happened in the main part which is entry hall. The entry hall just as show above, it is a transition point that every part can use it to arrive. This relationship is tight.
"Silence" Area Vs "Lively" Area:
As the diagram shown above, the red is presented as silence area which is divided by the transition point. The level 1 is the most lively area while the second floor is most for lively, this is good for protecting the privacy away from guests and maids
Geometric Shapes:
From the plan, we can draw a conclusion that the architect he used several L shapes to be the whole main body for the architecture, this can be very well to protect away form outside activity which can not be disturbed easily. The element outside such as the vertical slat is arranged as curve which can be found in its surrounding context-contour lines. The pond and the vertical slats can enhance the ample shapes of the architecture.
Material Utility
Finland is a norther European nation of large resource of timber, copper, stone and other natural things.Alvato he used to retreat to nature traditional in Finland-the nature resources. So the interior structures like window framing and columns, are both wooden to be contrasting the outside forest. The handle shown above is made by copper, and the fire place and outside enclosure are all made from stone and marble, which is extracting the materials in local market.
